Summit Volunteers Host an Afternoon of Fun for Kids at Hubbard House

It was an Independence Day to remember, according to Summit volunteers who visited Hubbard House, a domestic violence center in Jacksonville. They brought hot dogs, ice cream, basket balls, and toys… but the big event for the afternoon involved a few hundred water balloons and a whole lot of fun!

“All children just want to love and be loved in return. Knowing what these children in particular have gone through and why they are currently in Hubbard House but yet, they are still so full of hope and joy is just an amazing thing to see. It was really awesome just watching them have fun and be kids,” says Michelle Kirkland, one of Summit’s volunteers.

“Safety, empowerment and social change for victims of domestic violence.”

Serving Duval and Baker Counties, Hubbard House, a full-service certified domestic violence center, has answered more than 91,000 hotline calls and sheltered more than 36,800 victims and their children in its 42-year history. The agency’s impact can be measured in suffering spared, lives liberated and tragic deaths dodged right here in the local community. And, for most victims, it all begins with a free, confidential phone call to the agency’s 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline, (904) 354-3114.
